About Me

Hi, My name is Alvaro Dias. I'm a software engineer, play the piano in my free time, and sometimes strum a few tunes on my guitar. I love doing road trips. And enjoy reading spy/thriller fiction. I live in Bellevue, Washington, USA and build software for a living and sometimes for fun. I'm from the beautiful coastal state of Goa on the west coast of India. It's where I grew up.

I blog on all things software at My tryst with Code and various musical experiences I've had at Music Unlimited.

A little more about what I've been up to below.

I've worked for Microsoft for over 8 years. Over the course of this time, I've helped build a bunch of products.

Azure Portal

Azure Portal

I'm currently building the new web portal https://portal.azure.com for Microsoft Azure, the application platform for the Microsoft cloud. And helping make it an awesome experience to build, manage and monitor all your Azure services. blog posts by me

WebMatrix is a free, lightweight, cloud-connected web development tool. During my stint in this team, I helped build cloud-connectivity capabilities such as seemlessly creating and publishing websites and databases to Azure. blog posts by me

Bing Ads

Bing Ads

This is the web portal for Bing Ads which allows users to create and manager their online advertising campaigns. Among other things, I helped build the backend data stores for user campaigns, ads and keywords, infrastructure to process all this data.

Microsoft PubCenter

PubCenter was a web portal for creating ads in apps. It allowed you to manage ad units in windows and windows phone apps among other things. This has since been integrated into the Windows DevCenter.

NIT Durgapur

I graduated from NIT Durgapur in 2007 with a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Built electronics components. Assembled a few robots. I learnt a lot. Forged new friendships. The 4 years here were amazing.
